Profile and History

Society of St. Joseph’s Hospital is a charitable society registered under the societies registration Act of 1973 with the Registration No: 1696, located in Hoshangabad, M.P, was established in the year 1989 and is owned and managed by the Franciscan Clarist Congregation (FCC).

At the request of late Rev. Dr. Eugene D’ Souza M.S.F.S the Archbishop of Bhopal who felt the need of a hospital for the poor and needy people of the area as well as the poor residents of the villages itself who could not afford the costly treatment of the hospitals and clinics in the town, invited the sisters of Franciscan Clarist Congregation to start a Hospital and training centre for the health workers in Hoshangabad. Responding positively to the invitation a team of sisters came to Hoshangabad to start a hospital. The Diocese made available to the sisters an existing quarter for the residential facility with a compound attached to it. From the existing quarters one was renovated for the 10 bedded hospital. On 5 July 1989, St.Joseph Hospital was inaugurated by Rev. Dr. Eugene D’ Souza M.S.F.S the Archbishop of Bhopal. Dr.Sr.Irene FCC is the first doctor and first Medical Superintendent of St.Joseph Hospital. The pioneer members of this hospital are Dr.Sr.Irene ,Sr.Therese Mathew, Sr.Lia and Sr.Elseena. Over the past years, the hospital grew in its dedicated services and now the hospital has become a 125-bedded hospital with large spacious Outpatient Departments and In-patient wards. Our hospital offers different medical facilities at subsidized rates. We incessantly strive to bring quality medical care at affordable cost to the common people of Hoshangabad town and nearby villages.
We are deeply committed to our Vision, Mission and Motto and we ensure “Life in its Fullness” with Compassionate Love Following Jesus the Divine Healer,to all without any distinction of caste, creed, religion or economic status. We are grateful to our many donors from India and abroad for their generous contributions and helping us to render our medical care vision and dreams to provide preventive, promotive, curative health care at affordable cost to the common people. With great enthusiasm and dedication we at St.Joseph Hospital continue with our mission of bringing healing and wholeness to the least and the lost ones of the society with compassionate health care .
Considering the increased number of poor patients and the need of skilled and committed nurses, Franciscan Clarist Sisters of Amala Province started the School of Nursing with General Nursing Programme on 8 September 1997, And college of nursing with B.Sc Nursing program in 2011.
